Our Mission
The Owensboro-Daviess County Humane Society operates on the belief that all of mankind has a responsibility to respect the creatures of this earth. To that end, we strive to improve the life, health and habitat for rejected, abused and neglected animals in our Owensboro-Daviess county area.
Our Vision
We seek to connect adoptable animals with well-matched forever homes for the adoptable and to provide a safe, nurturing, no-kill sanctuary of last resort when that is not possible.
About Us
Since 1968, the Owensboro Humane Society (OHS), a 501(c)(3) charity, has been gradually increasing its strength and numbers to put a stop to abuse, neglect, and the overbreeding of our local animal population. The Owensboro Humane Society believes that all animals are adoptable, and that’s why in 1999, we decided to go completely NO KILL (except for mercy kills – cases beyond any medical help). Like people, some of our animals have special needs or are senior citizens, but we consider them all adoptable.
Our animals are given a home by our staff and volunteers until a new family arrives to adopt them. We do not euthanize any of our animals due to lack of space or because they are deemed “less adoptable.” Some may spend their remaining lives in our care.
We are committed to speaking up for those who have no voice and no choice.
Despite our small size, we have a big heart. Our size and funding limitations restrict the number of animals we can rescue, but we are dedicated to helping as many animals as possible.
